Winter Weather

7 December 2017 (by admin)

A reminder of the school's adverse weather policy / procedures and how school will remain open except in very extreme conditions.

With the risk of adverse weather conditions such as freezing temperatures and snow and ice in the coming days this is a good opportunity to remind all parents / carers of our procedures regarding emergency school closure as a result of such conditions.

In the event of adverse weather conditions, the school will make every effort to remain open and will only close in exceptional circumstances.

In the event of adverse weather, consideration will be given to:

•State of pathways, steps and slopes around the school
•Condition of roads and pathways in the local area
•If the school's heating, lighting and water is working correctly
•Whether catering can be provided
•Availability of public transport
•Weather forecast

Another key consideration will be whether enough staff will be able to arrive in school in time to meet the correct pupil staff ratios

If it is felt necessary to close the school then the decision will be made as soon as possible and parents informed through the school web site and text message service. The local authority (Staffordshire County Council) will also be informed and the school closure posted on their web site.

In order to try and keep the school open and take full account of weather conditions and disruption to traffic, it is unlikely that this decision will be made until 8.00am.
