Start of new academic year - Wednesday 2nd September
14 July 2020 (by admin)
Details of the times of the start and end times of the school day in September in order to reduce congestion on the school site in line with government guidance.
The guidance released by the government on 2nd July 2020 states that all pupils in all year groups will return to school full time from the beginning of the autumn term.
The prevalence of coronavirus (COVID-19) has decreased and the government has set out clear measures that need to be in place to create safer environments within schools.
Measures for arriving at and leaving school
In order to follow the government guidance it is crucial that we try to minimise congestion on our school site in order to maintain social distancing – particularly between adults. This will be particularly challenging given the nature of our school site.
In order to achieve this we will be introducing staggered start and finish times for pupils from September 2020.
EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 pupils will start school at the usual time of 8.50am with the gate open to the playground at 8.40am.
They will finish school at 3.00pm.
Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 pupils should be dropped off at the gate to the playground and make their way into their classrooms. Staff will be around on the playground to direct them on the first few days of term.
EYFS parents / carers will receive further details regarding their entry / exit to school during their transition weeks at the start of term.
Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will start school at 9.05am.
These pupils should aim to arrive at school no earlier than 8.55am.
These pupils will finish school at 3.15pm.
Year 4 and Year 5 pupils should be dropped off at the gate to the playground and make their way into their classrooms.
Year 6 pupils should enter the school building by the red doors to the hall and then make their way to their classrooms.
The gate to the playground and doors to the hall for Year 6 pupils will be closed and locked at 9.05am
Any pupils who arrive after this will have to enter school through the main entrance / school office.
Registers for all classes will close at 9.15am.
Any pupil who arrives after this time will be marked as late.
At the end of the school day EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 and Year 3 pupils will be dismissed onto the playground at 3.00pm to their parents.
Year 4 and Year 5 pupils will be dismissed onto the playground to waiting parents at 3.15pm.
Year 6 pupils will be dismissed at 3.15pm through the red doors by the hall and make their way down the side of the school building on the fenced path to the school gates.
Arrangements for siblings
Where parents / carers have brother or sisters in different year groups with different start times - these pupils can enter the school and their classroom when their younger pupils start school.
At the end of the school day parents / carers will need to wait for older siblings on the playground until they are dismissed at 3.15pm. In order so as not to disrupt learning older pupils will not be able to be collected early except in exceptional circumstance.
Drop and Go
We will also have to – in line with government guidance request that parents / carers do not gather at the school entrance and do not come into the school building unless an appointment has been made or unless it is urgent. We would ask parents that they ‘drop and go’ leaving the school site as quickly as possible once their child has been dropped off.
All of these arrangements will take some time to become familiar with and it is likely that we will have to make changes to them as the term goes on.
