A Message from the Chair of Governors

7 June 2022 (by admin)

A message from Mr Martin Hall (Chair of Governing Board) following his visit to school on Tuesday 7th June to look at the teaching of mathematics.

Dear parents / carers,

Today (Tuesday 7th June 2022) I visited all classrooms across the school with Mr Newbold (Mathematics curriculum lead) to look at the teaching of mathematics across the school.

From these classroom visits I could see that pupils were fully engaged with and enjoying their mathematics learning.

I spoke to a number of pupils who explained what they were learning and could make links to prior learning to explain why they were learning this now.

I observed pupils explaining to each other their learning and using their mathematics knowledge and skills to explain their reasoning.

I also asked pupils what they would do if they found a particular problem or question difficult and they explained the strategies they would use to do this before asking a member of staff for help.

In all classrooms there was calm working environment with a consistency of approach seen across the school.

As I have seen in all my visits to school this academic year there was excellent behaviour for learning with pupil attitudes and conduct exemplary.

Where pupils made suggestions to me about how their mathematics learning could be improved I have passed these onto Mr Newbold and Mr Kelly.

At the end of the learning walk I discussed with Mr Kelly and Mr Newbold the importance of maintaining the hard work that has been done to improve mathematics learning this year through the rest of this term and into the new school year in September 2022. I also encouraged the school to continue supporting those pupils with extra tuition where learning gaps had been identified.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their dedication and hard work towards the teaching and learning of pupils in order to ensure that all children receive the best possible education to prepare them for their futures.

I would also like to thank all parents / carers for your continued support for the school.

Can I please remind you that if you wish to bring any matters to my attention regarding the performance of the school please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office: office@millfield.staffs.sch.uk

Kind regards,

Mr Martin Hall
