7 June 2022 (by admin)
An update on sport at our school including obtaining the School Games Silver Mark Award, after school clubs and a visit from coaches from the Peel Road Runners.
It is going to be a fantastic summer of sport at Millfield with a whole range of activities taking place including the return of our Sports Mornings in July which we hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend (exact dates to follow soon).
We are delighted to announce today that we have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Thanks to Mr Atkins our PE curriculum subject leader for completing our application alongside Mr Tipper School Games Organiser for Tamworth primary and secondary schools
In other sports news .....well done to our first group of Year 1 pupils who took part in their Multi Sports activities with Mr Dobbin on Monday afternoon. Tomorrow we have our first Rounders session with Year 5 and Year 6 pupils with Mr Dobbin.
As you will know Mr Dobbin is our fantastic sports leader from Premier Sports who leads a whole range of PE lessons and sporting activities / games at our school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Mr Dobbin would like to inform parents / carers that he has set up a new gymnastic club at Longwood Primary School starting next Tuesday 14th June running between 5.45pm and 6.45pm. The cost is £36 for 6 sessions. Children between the ages of 4 to 11 years old are welcome to attend. Places are limited however so please visit: https://www.premier-education.com/parents/venue/courses/14647-767859/ to make your booking
This evening we have a group of pupils participating in a Dodgeball tournament – we will let you know how they get on.
Then this Friday 10th June we will have a visit from some coaches / runners from the Peel Road Runners running club who will be leading some short coaching sessions with our Key Stage 2 pupils
The purpose of these sessions is to encourage children to run as a way of developing their general health and fitness.
These sessions will also be an opportunity to encourage pupils to take part in the Tamworth Gate Gallop 10K, Fun Run and Children's Run on the 26th June 2022 as well as be an extra training opportunity for our pupils taking part in the Staffordshire Games cross country event on Friday 24th June.
Those children taking part in the Staffordshire Games are reminded that there is after school practice on Friday 10th June as usual.
Could we please ask that all KS2 pupils (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6) to come into school in their PE kit this Friday in order to take part in these sessions.
