Summer Reading Challenge / Mrs Geobey is a Published Author!
19 July 2022 (by admin)
A reminder of how to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge and details of a new children's book just published written by our own Mrs Geobey.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge started on Saturday 9th July and runs throughout the summer holidays.
We know many Millfield pupils have already signed up - but we want even more to sign up!
The Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency and funded by Arts Council England, encourages children aged 4 to 11 to take part in a reading challenge to help prevent the summer reading ‘dip’.
Each year the challenge, delivered with the support of public libraries, motivates over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and confidence.
The challenge also aims to:
Celebrate the joy of reading whilst ensuring all children are able to read well by the age of 11
Continue to support pupils’ learning during the holidays
Help to prevent the trend for children’s reading skills to dip over the holidays
How to complete the Summer Reading Challenge 2022
To complete the challenge pupils must read six or more library books over the summer. In libraries, there are stickers and other rewards for every book read and children who complete the challenge receive a medal and a certificate.
How to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge 2022
To take part visit Tamworth Library any time from Saturday 9th July to sign up and receive a starter pack (that will contain a poster and stickers) then borrow your first set of books.
Once you have read these books return these to the library and collect your second set of stickers and borrow some more books!
Finally when you have read six books return to the library – return your borrowed books – and collect your medal, certificate, stickers and book mark.
We normally have a great number of pupils complete the challenge over the summer holidays – particularly in EYFS / Key Stage 1.
This year we really want as many Key Stage 2 pupils (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6) to complete the challenge – so there is a competition to see which year group can have the most pupils complete the challenge. Winners will be announced in September when we return to school with a special small prize for all pupils in the winning year group that take part!
All pupils who complete the challenge are welcome to bring their certificates into school to have presented in our Star of the Week assembly.
Mrs Geobey is a Published Author!
Our own Mrs Geobey has just had a book published - The Princess and the Baker - which tells the story of Princess Natalia who lives in the Kingdom of Colour where she balances nature to make sure her people have enough of everything.
The book is available on Amazon in paperback and as a Kindle edition or at other booksellers:
