Design a Paper Rocket - STEM competition

21 November 2022 (by admin)

Our latest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) competition is to design and make a paper rocket that can fly!

Dear parents / carers,

We are excited to announce our next STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) competition.

We would like to challenge the children to make their own paper rocket which is able to fly.

Watch the YouTube link below for a simple idea to start with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hThMoHB88w

After you have made your rocket send a photo into school and let us know how far it flew.

If you want to challenge yourself think about how can this idea be adapted so that your rocket could travel further? Could you use anything else as your power source? What about a washing up bottle?  Could you build your rocket with different materials?

Everyone who enters will receive a certificate and special prizes will be awarded to those pupils who show creativity and extend their learning.

Please send photos into school and place them in the competition box in the main entrance area or email entries to

k.fisher@millfield.staffs.sch.uk  (Science subject lead teacher) or

p.ingram@millfield.staffs.sch.uk (Design & Technology subject lead teacher)

Competition entries need to be returned to school by Friday 2nd December.

We can’t wait to see how you get on

Happy designing, making, testing, measuring and evaluating!

Good luck!
