Please park considerately and safely around our school

30 March 2023 (by admin)

Major parking issues around school and at Tolson's Estate.

Could we please ask all parents / carers who have to travel to school by car to park safely and considerately around the school site.

We have received complaints this week from our neighbours at Tolson's Estate on Mill Lane regarding the behaviour of a number of parents who have been parking on the estate property - this has led to a great deal of upset to tenants on the estate.

Tolson's Estate have made us aware that there have unfortunately, over the past few weeks, between incidents of verbal and physical abuse between members of their staff and parents / carers pupils from school. This is clearly unacceptable.

It is vitally important for the safety of all road users and pedestrians that cars are not double parked or abandoned on double yellow lines.

This is not only inconsiderate to other road users it is also dangerous - one of our Year 6 pupils was knocked down in Mill Lane last year due in part to the number of cars parked on these lines.

Our neighbours in the roads around school such as Mill Lane, Atherstone Street and Brook End should also not have their driveways blocked or be inconvenienced in any other ways by parents / carers parking around school

We are aware that as a result of complaints from Tolson's Estate parking wardens will be on more regular patrol in and around school  to enforce parking restrictions.

We know parking around our school is particularly difficult given its location and we would urge all parents / carers to walk to school where possible and take advantage of our staggered start and finish school times which have been retained in order to reduce congestion around school.

In the morning pupils can enter school any time within a fifteen-minute period from 8.40am onwards with gates closed at 8.55am.

EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils are dismissed at 3.05pm followed by Year 3 and Year 4 pupils at 3.10pm and finally by Year 5 and 6 pupils at 3.15pm.
