Learning Update - Tuesday 12th September

12 September 2023 (by admin)

Learning update - Pupils have now completed a full week back in school and are well settled in their classrooms and engaged in their learning.

We have now completed a full week back in school.

Pupils have settled exceptionally well this year - including our new pupils in EYFS - and we are really grateful for your support with this.

Mr Kelly and Mr Wiggett have been out and about in classrooms this morning (Tuesday 12th September) looking at learning and very impressed by what they saw. They observed our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils completing mathematics learning using our new White Rose mathematics scheme.

They also saw pupils explaining their mathematical reasoning to each other and to their teachers, following the completion of their Fluent in 5 questions.

In other year groups Mr Kelly and Mr Wiggett observed our younger pupils being taught how to read using their phonic skills in Read, Write Inc lessons whilst our older pupils were being taught how to develop their VIPERS (Vocabulary, Inference, Punctuation, Explain, Retrieve, Sequence / Summarise reading skills).

Year 1 attended their first KS1 assembly today in their hall which was on the theme of knowledge. Why not ask your child what they learnt today in this assembly?

A reminder to keep hearing your child read every day at home and completing their reading record - our older independent readers should record their daily reading themselves along with their thoughts, feelings and opinions about what they have read.

Reading is the most important skill we must teach our pupils as to allows them access to learning - We learn to read so that we can read to learn!

Finally if any parents / carers have any suggestions regarding what the school can do further to improve and help you as parents / carers please email: headteacher@millfield.staffs.sch.uk

We know we do not get everything right so if have any suggestions please let us know!

Thank you again for all your support.
