A Good Start to Learning4 September 2024 (by admin) |
Information about the start children have made to the new school year, supporting children with their reading, our Authors of the Month for September, dates for your diary and key contact information reminders.
Welcome Back!
It has been great to see pupils back at school and settling into their new classes with their new teachers. In particular, it has been fantastic to welcome new EYFS pupils and their parents / carers into school.
Children will over the course of this week be starting their new learning in all curriculum subjects – don’t forget to ask them what they have learnt each day!
Thank you for your support in ensuring that pupils arrive on time for school at the start of this term – this makes a big difference to children’s to children’s learning.
Summer Reading Challenge
Well done to all those pupils who completed the Summer Reading Challenge over the holidays and you have bought their certificates into school. We will present these at our Star of the Week assembly on Friday afternoon.
Don’t worry if your child has not bought their certificate in yet - pupils are welcome to continue to bring these in over the next few weeks and we will continue to present them in assembly.
Keep on reading / Authors of the month
Now that pupils are back at school we would ask that parents of our younger children are heard read (and read to) at home every day, and that this is recorded in their reading diary.
Our older children should also be reading everyday (before bed time is always good) and recording their thoughts and opinions about what they have read.
In order to develop our pupils’ love of reading and knowledge of different authors, we are continuing to feature Authors of the Month.
Our authors of the month for September are in EYFS / KS1 - Nicola O’Byrne and in KS2 our featured author is Jenny Pearson.
Check out Bad Cat! by Nicola Byrne which is the story of Fluffykins who is a lovely cat …. or is he? To find out the truth you’ll have to read the book!
Nicola O’Byrne also illustrated the fantastic story – Open Very Carefully (Winner of the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2014).
Jenny Pearson has written several books for children but her latest which has only just been published is Shipwrecked – the story of three kids who face shipwrecks, survival and pirates!
