Millfield Primary School - Governing Body 2016/17 - Governor Profiles

Mr M Hall - Chair of Governors

I was very proud to to join the Governing Board of the school and be accepted as a community governor in 2010.  My son Charley is currently in Year 6 my other son Thomas left Millfield in July 2015 in Year 6.

My involvement with the school began because I was so pleased with the way they were doing that I wanted to help in any way I could to maintain and improve the school so I volunteered and I am so pleased that I did.

Having served on the Governing Board in a number of roles I am now very proud to be Chair of the Governing Board and welcome the great responsibility I have in this vital role.

My experience outside of the school environment in business and management has contributed to a well balanced and enthusiastic governing body with our children's progress and achievement at it's heart.  Engaging with the head teacher and teaching staff to ensure that every child has the best educational provision possible as well as enjoying their time at our school is so rewarding.

Mr P Read - Vice Chair of Governors

I joined the governing body at Millfield Primary School in 1998 when my eldest daughter Madeleine entered reception class, quickly followed by her two sisters, Rosalinde & Josephine. Whilst they moved on in 2003 I have remained on the Governing Board in a range of roles including Chair of Governors.

Over the years I have drawn upon my experience and skills from my job in the banking & finance sector to support the school and help it to continue to develop and improve.

I am keen to ensure that Millfield School provides a first class education for its children in a safe, vibrant and enjoyable environment whilst retaining its links with the broader community who are rightly proud of its local school.

Mr P Thompson: Local Authority Governor

I joined the governing body in 1992 as a parent governor when my eldest child Craig started at Millfield. My daughter Laura also attended Millfield and my wife was on the PTA for a number of years so our family has a long association with the school.

When my children left Millfield I was keen to continue to give my support to the school and was put forward and appointed as a Local Education Authority Governor. I am Chair of the Finance, Personnel and Premises committee.working alongside Mr Kelly, his team and the other governors my aim is to continue to ensure that every child at Millfield has a safe, caring environment in which to learn so that they can achieve their full potential.

Mr J McCarthy: Co-opted Governor

It has been an honour to have been a community governor at Millfield for the last seven years. My eldest child left the school in July 2016 whilst my son is currently in Year 6.  I have served on all the different committees over this time and currently serve on the Personnel and Finance Committee as well as the committee with responsibility for the Head Teacher's Performance Management.

I am looking forward to serving the school over the coming years during what are going to be exciting times for the children in which they are going to have a first class learning environment preparing them for their futures.

Mrs S. Bramwell: Community Governor

In 1985 I became a parent governor at the school. When my youngest child left Millfield in 1994 I stayed on the Governing Body until my term finished in 1996.  In 2001 I rejoined the Governing Body as a community governor.

My career has been in administration and personnel and I have been able to use these skills whilst serving on the Finance, Personnel and Premises Committee. It was a privilege in 2008 to become Chair of Governors - a position I held until October 2014. I now make regular visits into school in my vital role as Safeguarding Link Governor as well as often accompanying year groups on educational visits.

Through my time in school  I see first hand how children enjoy their learning and it is my wish that Millfield Primary School children continue to learn in a happy and encouraging environment.

Mr. J. Warburton: Parent Governor

I joined the governing body as a parent governor in 2012. I have had two children at the school; Adam who left in July 2017 and my daughter Rebecca left the school in July 2015. I am currently chair of the Performance Management Committee and also serve on the Finance, Personnel and Premises committee where I have been able to use the skills and experience gained from my career in the Civil Service. I have very much enjoyed my time on the governing body and look forward to working with the Head Teacher and teaching staff in the exciting times ahead to improve the school. My wish for Millfield is that it is recognised as providing an enjoyable and supportive environment in which children achieve their full potential.

Mr. P. Newbold - Staff Governor

I joined the governing body in 2011 as a Parent Governor, after my eldest daughter Katie joined Millfield.  As a teacher myself, I was keen to help to develop the potential of the school and I agreed to take on the responsibility of Literacy link governor as part of my role as a member of the Curriculum and Development Committee.  Since 2014, I have swapped to the role of staff governor.  The governing body play a key part in offering support and challenge and I feel privileged to be part of this team involved in the strategic development and improvement of the school and our children’s future.

Mrs. S. Jarman: Staff Governor

Mr R. Penn Bourton: Parent Governor

Miss E Neville: Parent Governor

Mrs R Statham: Parent Governor

Mrs E Griffiths: Co-opted Governor

I joined the board of governors in 2015 having recently retired from the police force. My history with Millfield Primary School goes back to 1983 when I embarked on the start of my own education and I have remained connected throughout my life due to my own four children attending the school.

Currently I have two children at the school - John and James.

My role as a police inspector has provided me with the transferable skills of performance management, partnership working, budgetary control and links with the education authority which will hopefully support the school to thrive, whilst securing an enjoyable environment where children can perform to the best of their abilities.

Mrs P Pratt: Co-opted Governor

I have been a governor at Millfield since the Autumn term 2015.  My son is now in Year 3 and he is thoroughly enjoying his education here.  I am Vice Principal at Landau Forte Greenacres in Amington and as a primary school teacher I have experience of rapid school improvement and working in both Key Stages 1 and 2.  As a governor at Millfield I aim to support the school with my experiences and skills as a school leader on its journey to becoming an outstanding educational establishment.
